Automation Improves Client Cash Flow
In order to speed cash flow, a major distributor of store fixtures and point-of-sale displays wanted to invoice their customers within one day of shipment and to include freight as a separate line item in sales invoices. This posed a timing problem because paper freight invoices are not usually available until after the carriers deliver the shipments and provide the freight bills. Transportation Insight integrated several information technology processes to help solve this technical problem and expedite cash flow.
First, each of the client's carriers converted their freight bills into electronic (EDI) format for faster receiving. Next, Transportation Insight developed a nightly software routine to process the carrier shipment data files automatically. Finally, the client began receiving a nightly email with a freight invoice file containing one order per page to be stored electronically or printed. Now, each shipping invoice is easily matched with its appropriate sales invoice and both are sent to the relevant customer for payment.
As a result of Transportation Insight’s involvement and system integration, the client now enjoys faster cash flow through freight invoice automation and next day billing to their clients.
ERP Integration Creates Bottom-Line Savings
A leading distributor of satellite and consumer electronic equipment was looking for a solution that would create Bills of Lading using order information generated and passed into their ERP application. Transportation Insight provided an integrated solution that not only quickened the pace for completion but also provided stronger mechanism with which to audit and report freight transactions.
Transportation Insight's programmers worked with the client's Information Technology Development Team to make a seamless call from their ERP system to the Insight BOL systems for creating a new BOL. To the user, it appears that the BOL application is part of the client’s application system. Once users create the BOL, they can then either print, fax, or email it to the corresponding carrier for shipment pickup. Not only did this partnership reduce development costs and shorten development time schedules, the amount of time require to produce bills of lading for processing was also reduced.
By reducing company overhead, development time and improving reporting and audit capabilities, Transportation Insight together with the client have created a process that produces significant savings and opportunity for further future integration.
Inbound Freight Management Solution Improves Efficiency
A major retailer requested a solution to help improve inbound freight management. Because their suppliers were not shipping with core carriers delayed transit times and higher transportation costs resulted. By selecting Transportation Insight's recommendation, they minimized the number of carriers bumping the dock, significantly reduced transit time, and reduced their overall transportation cost.
